Goldthread is good for treating the stomach, conditions of the digestive tract, motion sickness, food poisoning, canker sores and is good for the gums.
The part of this plant that we want to harvest for medicinal purposes is the root. The root of this plant looks gold in color which is why it's called Goldthread. The plant is similar to the strawberry plant with 3 small leaves but they appear to have a waxy shiny surface.
Goldthread generally grows in mossy terrain and prefers to dwell in moist shady areas.
Goldthread is good for treating the stomach, conditions of the digestive tract, motion sickness, food poisoning, canker sores and is good for the gums. Allegedly it can also be used as an anti-tumor agent and to treat breast or stomach cancers. The medicine can be used by either chewing the root raw or by making a tincture. The known active ingredient is Berberine.
It has been reported that Berberine can cause heart palpitations or over-stimulate the nervous system. Use sparingly and with caution.
